FabFitFun – Are Subscription Boxes As Good As They Seem?

Oh, subscription boxes! I don’t know about you but I’m a big fan of getting things in the mail – particularly parcels and packages. I’m on a first name basis with my concierge because I have so many packages delivered. Having something delivered on a regular basis is like my dream, like a tiny gift for myself every month.

I had seen FabFitFun advertised all over the places, specifically endorsed by influencers and celebrities on Instagram. I’d never done a subscription box before, so I thought I’d give it a shot. The idea is that you pay a quarterly fee and once a ‘season’ they send you a box curated with goodies for that time of year. It seems great, but is it worth it?

Cost: FabFitFun costs $49.99 USD or $62 CAD (plus $8 shipping)
Value: The total value, depending on what’s in your box, is between $373 – $393

What’s inside? You get a newsletter that breaks down what’s in the box, articles from every company that’s featured and tips for the products you’re given. This is the third FabFitFun box I’ve received and will say I’ve always been impressed with the quality of the contents. You’re never sent anything cheap or tacky, that’s for sure! Here’s what was in the Winter 2017 Box:

  • BB Dakota Poncho ($70)
  • AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream ($33)
  • Pointe Studio Aloe Infused Cozy Socks ($19)
  • Kate Sommerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment ($75!)
  • Homemade by Ayesha Curry Ceramic Mug ($16)
  • DOUCCE Freematic Eyeshadow Pro Palette in Nude ($70)
  • OTHER REASONS Nine Lives Choker in Silver ($58)
  • FFFTV Fitness Ball ($16)
  • Nelson j Beverly Hills Moisture Healing Hair Mask ($23)

There’s no shortage of product, which I really appreciate. The first box I ever received had a BKR bottle inside, which sold me on FabFitFun immediately (out of everything I received, that’s the one thing I’ve used consistently).

But is it worth it? I would say for what you pay compared to what’s inside, it is definitely worth it. The problem for me is that while I love the products inside, I don’t use them enough to justify the cost of the subscription. I love the idea of subscription boxes but need to find one that has things I’ll actually use.

Do you have any subscription box recommendations? What have you tried?

XO, Nik
